Midfield

A biological silage additive for grass below 33% dry matter. Contains homofermentative strains Lactobacillus plantarum and Pediococcus pentosaceus for efficient fermentation, along with two heterofermentative strains Lactobacillus brevis and Lactobacillus buchneri, to provide aerobic stability, whilst avoiding dry matter losses.

Designed to treat lower dry matter grasses.

L. plantarum and P. pentosaceus are homofermenters, found to work particularly well together on the wetter grasses, providing a rapid drop in pH, controlling the fermentation, reducing nutrient loss and preventing the growth of undesirable organisms. This leads to protection against protein breakdown and secondary fermentation.

The heterofermenters (L. brevis and L. buchneri) provide aerobic stability through inhibiting yeasts and moulds, preventing heating and reducing mycotoxin production. This application is developed further by the inclusion of L. brevis which effectively “bridges the gap” between the homofermenters and L. buchneri. This is an extremely popular product of the Agriprep range.

FAQs

What is Midfield for?

A biological silage additive for grass below 33% dry matter.

Contains homofermentative strains Lactobacillus plantarum and Pediococcus pentosaceus for efficient fermentation, along with two heterofermentative strains Lactobacillus brevis and Lactobacillus buchneri, to provide aerobic stability, whilst avoiding dry matter losses.

How does Midfield work?

It is applied to the forage prior to conservation to create a favourable fermentation profile and achieve anaerobic stability to improve digestibility and increase dry matter (DM) intake at feeding out.
